The photographs depict various views of an abstract sculpture titled "Tiresias: The Blind Seer" by Prof. Andreas Loeschner-Gornau.
The sculpture is a highly stylized, anthropomorphic representation that alludes to human forms without elaborating specific details such as faces, hands, or feet. The work consists of organic, flowing shapes that suggest a sitting or crouching posture. The body is slender and elongated, featuring an intimation of a torso and a head-like finial. Characteristic features include the interstitial spaces and apertures that break up the composition, creating a sense of lightness and a delicate, filigreed structure. These voids create an interplay of light and shadow within the forms.
The dominant coloration is a rich, lustrous copper or bronze-reddish-brown, serving as the metallic base. Layered over this base color is a distinct patina in a vibrant turquoise-green, distributed irregularly and in patches across the entire surface. This patina is particularly concentrated in the recesses and on textured areas, thereby creating an aged and weathered aesthetic. The surface texture is rough and crackled, featuring fine fissures and uneven coatings that evoke natural corrosion. The raised areas often exhibit shinier, golden-brown accents, while the recesses are dominated by deep turquoise and rust tones.
The curving lines, reminiscent of a back and limbs, are clearly discernible, as is the central aperture that pierces the figure. The sculpture is positioned at a slight angle; while its forms appear compact and the interplay of lines is accentuated, the same flowing, abstract design and characteristic patina remain clearly visible. The sculpture rests on a flat, rounded, oval base that likewise features the copper coloring and turquoise patina. The base appears stable and provides a harmonious finish to the figure. The lighting is soft and diffuse, coming from the front and slightly from the side; this accentuates the sculpture's three-dimensional form and casts gentle shadows without creating harsh outlines. The irregular surface reflects the light in a multifaceted manner, highlighting the rich texture and complex color variations of the patina.
Tiresias is one of the most famous figures in Greek mythology. A blind seer from Thebes who lived as both a man and a woman, he played a central role in numerous classical dramas and epics.
