"reset / answers to the dao" Music & video 2026 by Andreas Loeschner-Gornau
TITLE: RESET / ANSWERS TO THE DAO
A multisensory manifestation of the subjective Now and archaic autonomy.
This work ignores the fictions of history, future, and social discourse. It is born from the realization that the world is a pure construction of the brain in the present moment. While the masses scream for a freedom that merely consists of new collective dependencies, this work attempts to receive the continuous murmur of the Dao and to formulate an answer in the here and now to questions that do not even exist outside of this very moment. From this Now arises the illusion of time. Does time have a direction? Is the Neanderthal the beginning or the end? In contrast to the Now, these boundaries blur. Ultimately, the meaning of life is nothing more than the fleeting shifting of energy.
A. The Acoustic Primal State (Monumental Duration)
The structure breathes the tradition of monumental electronic masterworks such as Karlheinz Stockhausen's HYMNEN—yet where Stockhausen staged the accidental static and search along the frequency dials of old shortwave radios, this work breaks through to a deeper, more organic dimension. The piece unfolds its hypnotic effect only over a duration of at least one hour; the longer it runs, the more relentlessly it draws the mind into its spell.
The foundation consists of 128 raw, self-recorded vocal fragments (primal sounds like “La, tsch, ei, jä”), driven by spectral synthesis and permanently deformed. A completely unique acoustic quality emerges: a flow of fleeting musical information, sudden, chilling silence, animalistic cries, alien associations, and entirely unusual, fascinating sounds. Civilized language is consciously ignored—and if, for a brief fragment, an intelligible word does break through the spectral rush, it unleashes an almost painful, monumental impact on the brain. This is an avant-garde detached from academic dogmas—the pure, untransmittable signature of a consciousness in the Now.
B. The Manifestation of the Neanderthal Gesture
On the visual plane, the fleeting signal is translated into a three-dimensional movement. A continuous, vibrant red path bends and winds through space with every single note strike. This is the manifested Neanderthal gesture—for the gesture belongs to the primal language of mankind. It moves freely through space, elastic and alive.
This red primal gesture cuts through an asynchronously rotating sea of gray, black, and white. Here, the spoken phonetic fragments and the raw parameter values of the sound synthesis shift through the space. They represent the pseudo-scientific nature of modern statistics. The naked numbers on the screen are what is heard—yet no analytical mind can truly visualize this complexity. It is just like anthropology: just as we can only glimpse a tiny fraction of an entire population from the fragmented mandible of Homo heidelbergensis, these parameters only show the incomplete skeleton of a living, fleeting moment before everything fades back into the black of the cave.
